Ignition Coils

Find the Parts You Need for Replacing Ignition Coils

Auto ignition coils are important aspects of a vehicle's ignition system. Ignition coils are responsible for producing the voltage necessary to fire the spark plugs that will initially start a vehicle's engine. If your car is having trouble starting, and you have already eliminated the possibility of faulty spark plugs, replacing ignition coils may be necessary. How can you know for sure that you'll have to be replacing ignition coils? First, you'll have to test them.

Testing your ignition coils is relatively easy, as there is no special tool required. But some care is required when testing ignition coils, since the electricity generated in an ignition system can be dangerous.

The first step is to locate a section on the engine that is an accessible grounding point. Any spot of exposed metal will do. Hold the spark plug with pliers and gently touch the threaded part of the spark plug to the grounded tip. Then, have someone turn on the engine and take note of the blue spark that appears across the spark plug gap. If a bright spark generates, then your ignitions coils are working. If there is no spark, then it's likely time to think about replacing your ignition coils. At Tune Up and Ignition, we have a range of ignition coils for a range of vehicles.
